
Area schools will begin opening next weekClasses for the 2008-09 term will begin at some area schools next week, and others the following week. Classes at Strasburg Public School, Zeeland Public School and Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Public School will begin on Tuesday, August 19; and Linton Public School will begin classes on Tuesday, August 26. Classes begin at Bakker Elementary School on Monday, August 25. Bakker District #10 Bakker Elementary School will begin classes for Grade 4 on Monday, August 25, and Kindergarten will begin on Wednesday, September 10. Joy Dykema is the principal and only teacher. Eight students (two in 4th grade, and 6 in Kindergarten) will attend Bakker School this year. Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock District #6 Classes will begin at Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock School on Tuesday, August 19. An in-service for all staff will be held on August 15 and 18. Brandt Dick is the new Superintendent and High School Principal, and Dianne Kalberer is the Elementary Principal. Two new teachers will begin the year at H-M-B. Heather Scherr, who worked as an aide at the school last year, will be the new Special Education instructor, and Georgene Seibel will take over as the Special Ed. Aide. Enrollment at H-M-B will be 139 students (K-12), including 72 in high school (grades 9-12) and 67 in elementary and middle school (K-8). Linton District #36 Linton Public School will begin its classes on Tuesday, August 26. In-service for all staff members will be held on August 22 and 25. Al Bjornson is the new Superintendent and High School Principal, and Brian Flyberg is the Elementary Principal. New faculty members at Linton this year include Megan Nodland, who will take over as the Business Education Instructor, and Nicole Grove, who will work as a SLD Aide. Enrollment at Linton Public School will be 325 (K-12) students, including 122 students in high school (grades 9-12) and 203 in elementary and middle school (K-8). Strasburg District #15 Classes will begin at Strasburg Public School on Tuesday, August 19. In-service for all staff members will be held August 15 and 18. Jim Eiseman is the Superintendent, Yvonne Engelhart is the High School Principal and Daren Kurle is the Elementary Principal. Kurle will also teach at the elementary level. Two other new faculty members will join the staff at Strasburg School this year. They are Mark Mittleider (high school English), Ryan Harty (Business Ed.). Strasburg Public School enrollment for this year is 146 (K-12), including a high school (grades 9-12) enrollment of 55 students, and 91 students in grades K-8. Zeeland Classes in Zeeland Public School begin on Tuesday, August 19. In-service days are August 14 and 18. Corbley Ogren will serve as Superintendent and High School Principal, and LaDean Hettich is the Elementary Principal. Robert Sutton, who will teach Social Studies, is the only new faculty member at Zeeland Public School this year. Enrollment at Zeeland Public School this year will be 47 students, including 12 in grades 9-12 and 35 in grades K-8. Total enrollment Total enrollment in Emmons County schools (Bakker, H-M-B, Linton and Strasburg) for the 2008-09 school year will be 618 students (up from 609 last year), including 249 students (up from 233 last year) in high school (grades 9-12), and 369 elementary (grades K-8) students (down from 376 last year). |
