Vetters farm is damaged by tornadoBy Verda Seeklander Frank Vetter of Braddock had a pole barn. Now only half of it is left. A tornado hit sometime after midnight on June 10. Vetter said he woke up enough to hear some noise but went back to sleep. He discovered the damage the next morning. The Vetter farm is less than a mile southeast of Braddock. A twister lifted the east side of the barn up and over the west half of the building, dropping a portion of it between the barn and a storage shed. The shed roof was damaged and a 2x8 beam was imbedded in the east side of the storage shed which housed a pickup truck and a snowblower. Neither one was damaged. A nearby barrel, used to burn trash, was tipped on its side but not blown away. The tornado then lifted the rest of the debris - beams and shredded, bent up metal - up and over the shop and dropped it next to the northeast and north sides of the house, some of it even leaning against the building. The only visible damage to the home was to the northeast corner of the garage roof. Frank said he wasnt sure where or how to start cleaning up the mess because of all the nails and sharp objects that could ruin tractor tires. |
